Schaal Rosacker Grand Cru Riesling 2024

Julien Schaal Rosacker Riesling 2024 is a dry, precise Grand Cru Riesling from one of Alsace's great limestone sites. The Rosacker Grand Cru sits above the village of Hunawihr, at roughly 260330 metres elevation, with an east to south-east exposure. Its soils are based on ancient Muschelkalk and Lettenkohle limestone, formed around 235245 million years ago.

For Riesling, that translates into exactly the sort of character we want from Rosacker: tension, citrus, freshness and a pronounced mineral backbone. The 2024 is made from 100% Riesling, with the grapes harvested by hand and whole-bunch pressed. Fermentation is slow, cool and natural, taking up to three months, while malolactic fermentation is avoided to preserve the wine's natural acidity and freshness.

Tasting Notes Colour: Pale lemon-yellow with bright reflections. Nose: Fresh lime, lemon and grapefruit lead into white flowers, yellow apple and nectarine, with a cool, chalky mineral character underneath. Palate: Dry, focused and beautifully precise. Citrus and ripe orchard fruit are held tightly together by vibrant acidity and that distinctive limestone-driven structure.

There's plenty of concentration, but the wine never feels heavy. Finish: Long, clean and energetic, with lingering citrus zest, saline minerality and a lovely chalky freshness.
